See that there poetry? I have no idea why publishers aren’t biting my hand off.
So, today is apparently ‘Blue Monday’; a day in January dreamt up by a marketer for a travel company to sell holidays. It is apparently the ‘most depressing day of the year’. Well shame on you mister or mrs marketer, shame on you. As someone who has suffered from depression for as long as I can remember, no matter the date or month, this day annoys me to no end. Also, I personally think it is helping to aid in the ignorance that a lot of people still have regarding mental health. Depression isn’t something that you can switch on and off because it’s a certain date. But that’s a blog post for another time.
Anyway! Negativity aside, I wanted to give a big middle finger to ‘Blue Monday’ by writing up a little list of things that are making me happy right now.
Making Travel Plans
Truth be told, I’ve been feeling a little stuck-in-a-rut recently and I’ve been inspired to get myself ‘out there’ so to speak. I have plans to go to New Zealand later in the year to visit my friend who is heading there tomorrow (JEALOUS) and hopefully see a lot of the beautiful country whilst I’m there. I also want to visit America next year and I’m hoping to go on one of Trek America’s tours. I’ve received their brochure but it’s going to take me a while to decide which to go on I think! It’s all very exciting anyway.
Spending Time with Friends
I have spent the weekend just gone in a super cute holiday cottage in Bala with my best friends. We went away for someone’s birthday but it was also kind of a ‘goodbye’ getaway for my friend who is off to New Zealand I mentioned above. We don’t all get together very often and it’s always so much fun when we do!
Uptown Funk and Frozen OST
Yes, I am about eighteen months too late on the whole Frozen thing but my word, am I making up for lost time! I first watched the film very hungover on Christmas day and I have probably watched it upwards of ten times since. Perhaps I should be ashamed to admit this, but I’m not. I am currently flittering between the Frozen soundtrack and Uptown Funk whenever I fancy a bit of a sing-a-long and let’s be honest, there isn’t anything that perks you up more than a decent sing song.
Rupert and Colin
No matter how horrendous the day, how bad the weather or how bad I’m feeling; nothing quite perks me up like these two little boys. Their squishy faces, little curly tails and incredible personalities absolutely cheer up my day!
What’s making you happy right now?
